[Upon the roof, The Nexus decided to decorate for the birthday of one of its residents that day. The usual delicious buffets were set out for anyone to enjoy, including a surprisingly large section dedicated to pancakes and other breakfast foods. And, upon a large screen, 2001: A Space Odyssey was playing.]

[It felt strange, knowing he would be turning 52 here in the Nexus, when 51 would have been his final age back in the real world. Huey decided to stick around at his own party for a little while, in case anyone knew it was his birthday and would show up for it. He didn't expect that big of a crowd but you never know.]

[The man did hang around long enough to spot one present that he figured was for him and he opened it to find a familiar pair of sunglasses from long ago. Dr. Emmerich knew he had lost Strangelove's glasses years ago so this identical pair brought back both good and bad memories of their life together. He slipped them into his pocket, not wanting to think about the past too much then, and rolled over to the pancakes. It would be a waste not to the eat the food set out, right?]

((ooc: Mingle or hang out with the birthday boy. Any other Hueys around are encouraged to come by, too.))

[After finally recovering fully from the sickness that had infected her and the side effects of the medicine, Dr. Hunter decided to deliver the blue roses she had promised Elisa. She walked towards the fourth floor, a bundle of roses in her grasp, and knocked on the infirmary door.]

[She had a few other people in mind that she wanted to give some flowers to, as well. Huey, of course. And any version of Big Boss, Big Mama, or her brother she could find. Maybe other people, too. Naomi was just going to see who she could find in the maze that was the Nexus.]

(((For [livejournal.com profile] elisula if available, and anyone else who would want some roses or wants to speak to her. :3))

[Naomi found herself in front of a familiar door.  At first she was a little befuddled as to why she was there. She spotted the bag of sugar in her hand.]

[The memories of her past week were convoluted. She was just thankful that all the physical damages were gone with her revival. The doctor felt her neck where the jagged gashes should have been. It was odd that they weren't there. All of the bruises and the pain and the blood were absent as well. Had she really...?]

[Dr. Hunter figured her feet must have led her in front of Huey's door for a reason. At least she had the sugar as an excuse to visit. Her hand knocked on the door in front of her.]

[It was just another day in the Nexus, after all, right?]

[Just another normal average day.]

[Just another day.]

[Just another...]

((For [livejournal.com profile] hueyemmerich but anyone can bug.))

[It was finally happening.]

[Huey's operation was set in motion. It was only a matter of hours before he would be heading for the operating table. Despite his excitement at the prospect that he may be able to walk, he still had a few more last minute tasks to complete.]

[Firstly, he stopped off at the MSF base to hand in a note for Big Boss to let him know what was happening. His second destination was at Naomi's apartment to slip a letter under her door, similarly giving her all the updated information about his operation and the procedure in a more in-depth description.]

[As the doctors had suggested, he had refrained from smoking, drinking anything but water and eating for 24 hours. If he was honest, his body had suffered worse conditions. While he worked long hours in his lab, he had often forgotten to eat and drink regularly, so this was really nothing.]

[Now that Huey had completed his tasks, he had wheeled his way to the infirmary to get some last minute checks on the computer in order to coincide with his operation.]

((ooc: Looking for [livejournal.com profile] med_unit but open to anyone who wants to offer support. Details on the operation are here.))

[It had been several days since the wheelchair-bound doctor had visited the lab. They had taken some time to study the dossier carefully, checking their equipment, the plausibilities, and acquire what they needed from Doctor Hunter before reaching an agreement. Sara had been given the task of giving him the good news.]

(She's looking for [livejournal.com profile] hueyemmerich, but feel free to bother.)

[After completing a new version of FOXDIE the last couple of weeks, Naomi decided to leave her lab and bake some cakes. She enjoyed cooking and having some company would be a nice change of pace. She placed the cheesecake next to the chocolate cake next to the carrot cake next to the red velvet cake then checked the oven for her tiramisu. Dr. Hunter continued to hum a catchy tune as she went around in her oven mits and her cooking apron.]

[Huey was a doctor, a scientist and an engineer. He was a man of great power when it came to knowledge of how technology worked. He could assess how an object could be compiled just by looking at it. It was a nifty trait to possess, especially in this world he was now living in, away from home and swamped by 21st century gadgets. Advances in technology had taken him some time to adjust to, but none of it was far from his depiction of what the future would be like. He was truly living in his vision, and now that he was no longer needed to create a Metal Gear, he was focusing his plans elsewhere.]

[Inside his lab were various posters pinned up on the walls of the human anatomy. Notes had been scribbled in a heated scrawl in order to overcome the complexities of his problematic life as a paraplegic. He cursed his father, naturally, for being born this way, but he also found a source of bitter-sweet relief by being succumb to this forced lifestyle. As weak as his spine and legs were, his spirit was strong. He had a backbone and wasn't afraid of anything or anyone. He was far from a pushover, and in knowing everything he did about his future, he was going to reshape it in this building. He would "walk tall" among his comrades and enemies, no matter the cost.]

[Huey was working in the dark, aside from the green LED lights beeping from the monitor of his outdated computer. He wore a pair of rubber gloves and thick, plastic goggles over his glasses to protect his already waning vision from any electric charges that might surface from his experiment. A spark ignited the room as he created a circuit with a battery and a voltage charge. Wires connected it together. On closer inspection, it seemed to represent a human spine. Each "vertebra" were joined in the center and, with rewiring, the miniature light bulb illuminated his pale face.]

[The doctor smiled thinly.]
[identity profile] hueyemmerich.livejournal.com
[In the lab on the first floor was Huey Emmerich. For the past week, he had been living in the dark, making due with some emergency candles as he continued his research and projects.]

[So when the bulbs overhead flickered on, he rolled his eyes beneath the lenses of his glasses and muttered under his breath.]

About time.

[Different to the previous blueprints that had been centered around his desk, the good doctor had swarmed himself with images of the anatomy of the human body. He had collected information from the library and managed to download books from one of the various computers in order to make sense of making prosthetic limbs, along with what sort of technology was available to him. He had a prototype hand ready for [livejournal.com profile] systemismine, using him as his experiment. Yes, Huey classed himself as a genius of technology but he still had much more to learn about the human body and connecting wires to nerves and muscles in order to make the false body part work. He hoped his first time doing this was a success.]

[If he could perfect it, he might be able to work on curing his own spine. The amount of technology that had advanced around him, it seemed to be a growing possibility as every day passed.]

[Even so, Huey was no machine. He was a human being and needed to eat and take a break from his work. If you happen to be walking by the lab, feel free to drop by and visit.]
[identity profile] hueyemmerich.livejournal.com
[On the first floor was a lab.]

[In this lab was a quiet Doctor.]

[However, compared to when he first arrived, Huey wasn't sat at his computer. No. Dr. Emmerich was sat at a table. He had two sets of blueprints in front of him, a red pen in his hand as he annotated each of them.]

[Huey had a few large pieces of graph paper to cover over should anyone intrude on his work. He doesn't intend on telling anyone that he's getting prepared to build a Metal Gear for [livejournal.com profile] seethingrage, despite his son's discretion.]

[Unless you happen to be Big Boss, Huey will be incredibly reluctant to tell you what exactly he's up to.]
[identity profile] geneticsaddict.livejournal.com
[She wasn't upset that she was on the no go list for the wedding. Not really. This meant lots of people on the "aren't invited" list would be out and about while the wedding was going on. And this meant getting the information she needed. Naomi sipped from a glass of wine at some random bar she had stumbled into, hoping people would show up for a drink and would be willing to talk.]

((For those not going to the wedding or whoever wants a drink.))
[identity profile] otaku-mk-ii.livejournal.com
[Anyone wandering into the library would find this Otacon sitting at a desk and focusing on the familiar blueprints in front of him. He had hardly slept in days, as a working Otacon tended to do.]

[On the desk beside him sat a relatively small cardboard box holding an odd-looking device with what looked like solar panels on it. Otacon had kept the generator Solidus wanted close at hand for the past day or two, ever since he'd finished it. He was quite protective of his little devices, after all.]

[But at the moment? Nothing but an explosion could have distracted him from the blueprints he was finishing now; whatever his father asked of him, Otacon would do gladly.]

[I swear I'll stop with the spamming soon, gaiz. :D;;; Otacon's finishing work on something for [livejournal.com profile] hueyemmerich and has something ready for [livejournal.com profile] viscous_serpent, but anyone can bother him.]
[identity profile] polygon-animes.livejournal.com
Snake, there's something I've really got to ask you. It's why I followed you up this far.

[Otacon adjusted his glasses.]

Have you ever.... loved someone?

[Snake replied.]

No I mean... I... I was wondering if even soldiers fall in love.

[Snake replied again.]

I wanna ask you... Do you think love can bloom even on the battlefield?

[Then everything he knew was gone. Everything changed. Snake was no longer standing in front of him.]

What? I... Snake?
