Good morning, Jane. Happy Independence Day.

[Today is a day that Big Boss is proud to be an American.  American as Fuji apple pie.  The old man is wearing his old uniform (http://pics.livejournal.com/old_papa_john/pic/00005sza) and it still fits for the most part, so long as he doesn't take a deep breath, raise his arms, or eat too much. He's smoking a cigar but he'll be willing to extinguish it if Jane so desires.]

[She would stand closer to in, but she detests the smell of smoke from cigarettes and cigars, so she keeps a safe distance. Sitting on a plastic chair nearby, she crosses one leg over the other. Her clasped hand rest on her knee.]

The very last time I saw you in my world, you were wearing that. [She nods toward his uniform.]

Heh, yeah. It still fits [sort of].

[He gestures to the grill with cigar in hand.] Would you like me to grill you something?

[She gives a small laugh.]

Maybe this place wanted you to wear it.

[She carefully watches his hand, not wanting any ash to get on the grill. It doesn't matter if there's charcoal turning into ash there, she doesn't want cigar ash on the food. Her food, mainly.] What do you have?

Maybe. It's one of the few things that I want to wear. There's a Hawai'ian shirt in my closet but...I don't know-

[He glances to where she's looking and he moves his hands away from the grill for the moment.]

Hn. The usual. Hot dogs, hamburgers, steak.

[She laughs a bit harder this time.] A Hawai'ian shirt? I should have figured you would at least have one.

That's it? I... guess I'll have a hot dog, then.

It just happens to be in there. It's as if the nexus wants me to don it. [He seems to be grumbling a tad.]

You desire something else? Tell me what you want. Jane, you don't have to settle for any of the things I have grilled already; you understand that, right?

I'm agreeing with the Nexus here. [She smiles.] If I can wear the outfits this place provides me, you should wear the outfits the it provides for you.

Unless, of course, you still enjoy running around without your shirt on.

[She shakes her head.] It's Fourth of July. I think one hot dog wouldn't hurt me.

You think...I would look good in a Hawai'ian shirt? [He says this rather flatly.] You really think so? [Now he's going to have to try it on sometime just for shits and giggles. He takes a moment to put out his cigar, then wipe his hands on a paper towel.]

Shirtless?

[He gets a bun, then picks up the grilling fork to use to spear her a hot dog off of the grill.] Alright. Here you go~ [He offers her the snack on the patriotic plate.]

I think it would suit you, yes. [She gives a proud smile, her chin tilting up a little.]

Well, I guess it's good you keep your shirt on now. Considering the female version of the younger you was here and was running around shirtless. Thankfully, if you keep your shirt on at this age... she will, too.

[She gladly takes the plate with a smile.] Thank you. [Then reluctantly, she takes a bite. She slowly chews it, trying to figure out if she likes it or not.]

[He...doesn't even try to comprehend what she's going on about there.] Hmmm.

... [John watches her taste his grilling. If it's any consolation, the hot dogs are Kosher.]

[She finishes her bite.] It's actually not that bad. I mean, not all meat is bad-- I did try a snake here a few months ago and it was fine-- but this is pretty delicious.

[He smiles a little.] Good.

I'm glad that you like it.

[Why the Hell does this make him feels so stupid happy inside. Maybe he's coming down with something.]

[She flashes him a smile before she takes another bite.]

[She waits until she's done chewing her piece to talk to him.]

Are you going to be grilling all day?

Depends on the demand for food, that and I've got nothing else to do around here today.

That's understandable. Especially with the different versions of you around here, you might have to work overtime. [She softly laughs.]

I was just wondering, that's all. [She gives a tight-lipped smile.] Will you at least watch the fireworks with me?

Heh. Yeah, but I know I can grill for myself. May have to take shifts...with myself. [The thought is just a tad amusing to the old man.]

Oh~? [He smiles back at her.] I'd love to.

[She laughs at the thought of this.] It's like some Fourth of July themed episode of The Twilight Zone.

[The old man chuckles and shakes his head.] Seems so.

No, I was just thinking maybe you didn't feel like watching them. [She shrugs, taking another bite.]

I'd love to watch them with you, otherwise, you're right. I wouldn't give it the time of day.
