We're Strange Allies With Warring Hearts

[A year.]

[Gray Fox had been in a relationship for an entire year. The thought was almost depressing. He'd been involved with Elisa for a year but how much time did he honestly spend with her? The existence of Ursula immediately cut that time in half, coupled with the long stretches of time he'd gone with barely speaking to the young woman, the end result was not the most desirable. This, however, wasn't the only thought that plagued his mind.]

[Another Naomi had found herself in the Nexus. One from a time Fox didn't want to fathom; a version of his sister that had come here after facing her own death. She appeared no older than any other Naomi he'd encountered in his time here - to think that every one of them may have been suffering in silence, to think he couldn't be there in her time to care for her as he'd done when she was a child.]

[It was almost too much for him.]

[Tonight, however, was about Elisa. He'd asked the girl to meet him here at this restaurant tonight. He had to swallow his feelings and push these thoughts to the back of his mind. He'd canceled engagements with Elisa all too frequently; their anniversary dinner was something he knew he couldn't put off. Clad in his dark green suit, he idly paces at the entrance, glancing out down the hallway now and then as he awaits her arrival.]

[Sure, Elisa could have chosen some of the other more eye-catching outfits... The ones with more cleavage; high slits and sparkles. But no. For some reason... this (http://www.goodorient.com/images/P/BE231_200.jpg) particular one caught her eye. It's relatively simple, yes... But the color stood out among all others. A deep, cool, almost blood-red. Fox's favorite color, if she recalls correctly. Sure- the others were flashier... but THIS is something she wants him to know was chosen for him. Classy, and sleek. Elisa just hopes he'll find it as interesting as some of her past choices.]

[And anyway, tonight's focal point- in regards to her appearance- was MEANT to actually be her hair (http://www.dianapagan.com/images/slideshow/imagegallery/blonde-hair-pic4.jpg). A very dramatic, almost movie-star look which took her hours to complete in itself. The hair swooped in front of one eye for a more flirtatious look; something she was interested to try out for this occasion.]

[And what an occasion it is! Their first anniversary... In contrast to Fox, Elisa is actually quite happy right now. There are butterflies in her stomach but she still does her best to stride confidently down the hall. He can likely hear her heels clicking against the hallway floor as she approaches; rounding a corner to greet the man with a somewhat nervous, but excited smile.] ...Should have known you'd be here before me as usual...

[Elisa stands in front of him; looking to Fox as she cants her head to the side and tries to gauge his approval or disapproval of her appearance tonight.]

[Looking the girl over, he manages to conceal his grimace. She's put a great deal of effort into making herself presentable. Ending this date early doesn't appear to be an option at this point; he's going to have to deal with it.]

[Fox nods slowly in silent approval of her choice in outfit, a thin smile crossing his features. In truth, he could care less about what she wore but it seemed to be something important to her, it was best to acknowledge the work she's put forth.]

You look quite nice this evening. [He offers his hand to her.] Shall we begin?

["Quite nice"? Well, she'll take it!]

You too... as always. [Elisa smiles broadly and slips her smaller hand into his larger, calloused one]

By all means~

[With her hand in his own, he leads her over to a table off in the corner. It's very similar to the one they had the last time they were here, lit by candle with a bottle of peach wine chilling in a bucket. He pulls out a chair for her, gesturing for her to take a seat.]

I've already ordered for us... I do hope you're hungry.

Starving. [Ooh~ Is that more peach wine she sees? Yaay!]

[Elisa takes a seat, nodding her head in thanks as she scoots closer toward the table]

You set everything up so nicely again... [She gives a broad smile; genuinely happy that they can spend a moment together like this after so much time apart. The candles add perfect lighting to the perfectly romantic scenery. Elisa really does love this restaurant.]

[Helping her push the seat in, he takes his own once the girl is settled.]

I'm pleased that you enjoy it so. [He uncorks the bottle of wine and pours them each a glass. As he does so, a server comes by with their meals - setting down some steak and potatoes for Fox, a peach and pork chop dish (http://img.timeinc.net/recipes/i/recipes/ck/08/03/pork-chops-ck-1714535-l.jpg) for Elisa. They bow their head in silence and quickly scuffle off.]

There's been a few additions to the menu since our last visit. I do hope you will enjoy it.

[Such polite waiters. It's probably easy to be polite when you're not real, though.]

[Elisa turns her attention down to her plate and blinks curiously] Wow.. are these peach-slices on this seasoned meat? How interesting...

[The girl lifts her fork and knife; all too eager to begin sampling the unique dish set out for her. After cutting herself out a square of the tender pork, the girl lifts her fork to her mouth and begins chewing thoroughly]

[Nodding in approval, she swallows] That's really great! Just the right amount of sweetness to make it memorable... you know?

[Looking over at his plate] How's your steak?

[Fox hasn't even touched his food yet. He's not really in the mood to eat.]

It's fine. I'm glad you're enjoying the pork; I wasn't certain how you felt about it but I assumed the peach sauce and roasted peaches would certainly make the difference.

Yeah... [She looks to his plate again. Doesn't look like he took even one bite.]

[A warning-signal immediately goes off in her head at that. Frank is no stranger to skipping meals, but he's definitely not the type to waste food that has been set out for him. Especially when it's that... terribly undercooked meat that he seems to enjoy so much.]

...Not eating? [She furrows her brow] I can call one of the waiters over to exchange your food, if there's something wrong with it.

[He picks up his fork, poking at a steamed red potato on his plate. He's attracting suspicion, he's going to have to force himself to eat.]

Oh, no. I'm merely taking my time... And admiring what else is lain out before.

[She blinks] O-oh.... Well then; take your time~

[Elisa smiles, then goes to reach for her wine glass. She takes a few gulps of the fruity peach flavor before setting it down, and licking her lips] Mmm.... I should try and get some of this stuff for my room.

Sometimes I just get nervous about having alcohol there, you know? I mean- what if Null finds some and drinks it without knowing what he's doing? I guess I'll have to talk to him about things like alcohol before he gets too curious... No that I think he'd purposefully set out to drink of course.

....

He wouldn't, right? You probably didn't touch the stuff until you were... what? 21...? [Hey, she can hope, right?]

Alcohol? [He idly cuts his potatoes and a few small carrots, trying to appear as if he's going to be eating. His first encounter with alcohol is hard to remember; he may of tried a taste or two before he'd even been taken by the CIA.]

I was... a bit younger than that.

[Pausing in her meal] Just.... a bit though, right..?

Several years. [He stabs a carrot with his fork, idly swirling it in his steak's au jus.]

Should I remind you that you're under twenty-one as well? [He gestures to her wine before taking hold of his own glass and taking a long drink.]

W-well... that's... different...

[She sighs] ...Okay, fine. Maybe not.

[Elisa continues eating her pork, lifting a very large slice of a peach into her mouth and chewing] Hangh ghurff 'sh usht--

[The girl stops talking for a moment in order to finish chewing, before finally gulping down the fruit] -Sorry- [Continuing] -I guess it's just kind of hard for me to stop thinking of him as being that same young boy I first met. Even knowing you, it's hard to imagine Null drinking or... smoking or... dating...

[She shakes her head as if to clear it] But he's grown a lot, and he's not a little kid, I know. Sometimes I still catch myself babying him. Cutting his food into biteable pieces, helping him get dressed or undressed.... [A sigh]

It's things like that, that would only hurt the development of a growing young man...

He isn't a child, even now. He's never been a child, Elisa. [Naomi had been a child. Naomi had the opportunity to be a child. Fox had ensured she had every opportunity he didn't, from a childhood to an education and yet, she dies at such a young age.]

[He pushes this thought from his mind, trying to focus on the topic at hand. For a change, speaking about his child counterpart is preferable than speaking about himself.]

...You still dress him?

.... [She doesn't say anything to that]

[Elisa blinks] Not... completely. But, you know, if he's really tired or something- Sometimes he has trouble with... the straps on his uniform and such...

[Elisa looks to his plate again] ...You sure the food's alright?

~~[Diverting attention away from the topic maybe?]~~

Hm? [He glances down at the plate] Yes, it's fine. I seem to be caught up in the conversation tonight, don't I?

[Time to divert her elsewhere.]

...How old is the boy again? Roughly fifteen? I'd estimate that was how old I was when I shared my first beer with Jack.

I suppose that he could be about 16 or so, yes..

[Elisa goes deep in thought] ...A beer with Jack..

[The girl eventually nods her head in approval] Okay;

I suppose that's not so bad. Even 14 year olds are allowed to drink with family in Germany. As long as he's with someone who could supervise him, I guess I don't see a major problem.

...How much did you have? Do you remember?

I- I'm only curious.

Hard to say. It wasn't uncommon for me to drink with him; it's a bit of a habit that's stuck with me. He'd let me smoke a cigar now and then as well, I eventually just started carrying my own cigarettes - they weren't as bad for you back then, you see.

....Hnh.

[She suddenly doesn't much like this subject either. Elisa lets him finish as she swallows another bite of food.] Well. Alright.

SO- What have you been up to lately? Do anything interesting?

Nothing worthy of merit. You know I dislike speaking of my work.

[...]

And yourself?

...Yeah. [Elisa looks down at her plate. Can't say she wasn't expecting a very basic answer.]

Nothing really... Not outside the usual, anyway. Except-

[Elisa suddenly lifts her head] -Oh! I've been meaning to ask you;

Have you ever heard of "Philanthropy"?

"Philanthropy"...?

No, it doesn't sound familiar. Why do you ask?

It's an organization that Dr. Hal Emmerich is a part of, apparently. I was contacted sometime last week, and asked if I could help them in their attempts to... well, remove the current leaders of the building from power.

[She wasn't sure how he'd react to that. The two ARE a Big Boss and an EVA.]
