[The only thing more legendary than Liquid's ego or his reputation was his paranoia. It had only gotten worse since the FOXHOUND betrayal at Shadow Moses. Since that--or perhaps because of it--he had developed a near sixth sense for trouble brewing.]

[The operative in the SEAL uniform didn't know exactly what was going on, but all was not well in this insane little building.]

[...and somehow, he actually found that rather exciting. He was a bit lost without something to do for Philanthropy, after all. Regardless, if something was going to happen they would need to be prepared.]

[Liquid was sitting in the library, flipping idly through a copy of Titus Andronicus.The soldier debated over whether to call Otacon now or wait until he could have some evidence with these suspicions. Acting on vague impulse had gotten him into trouble far too many times in the past.]

If he can do it and keep his mind...then there must be a way.

Would you be all right with that? Having a cyborg body?

[Hal hugs back hard. He may not be able to fight like Liquid can, but he's protective of his soldier.] I know.

[He smiles softly as he rests his head on his shoulder.] There's hope.

I'm willing to do whatever it takes. As long as you would still want me around.

[That felt nice. ...Not that he'd admit it. Nope, he's just gonna sit here and hug Otacon possessively.]

I don't know about hope, but you know I'll never give up no matter what.

[Otacon pokes him in the shoulder.] Of course I do. Jeez, Liquid. You know I'll always want you.

[Otacon lets go, though he keeps leaning on Liquid. Liquid is comfortable.]

[Just hearing that much of a possibility takes a weight off his shoulders. For a while there, it seemed like Liquid was going to give up. It scared him.]

That's what hope means.

Well, hope or stubbornness.

Hm. I suppose dating a cyborg would be a dream come true for you. [Smirk.]

[Liquid ran a hand through Otacon's hair with a smile.] I would call it stubbornness, myself.

A cyborg you? [He pretends to think.] That would be kind of hot.

Same thing. [He closes his eyes under the caress.] That feels nice.

Of course it would be. I'm amazing in any form.

That's the idea, Hal. [Hand slipping under Otacon's chin, Liquid tilted the engineer's face up slightly and kissed him.]

[laughs] Can't argue there.

[ Hal kisses back slowly, savoring what he has. James makes him feel loved and wanted like he never has been before. He buries his hand in his soft gold hair.]

Why argue with perfection?

[Now this was a nice change from the insanity this building had put him through. Otacon was warm and affectionate as usual, nothing Liquid would dare protest. No one else could or would ever get this close to him, and...]

[...and oh god, that hand in his hair felt nothing short of fantastic.]

So I guess that would make cyborg perfection, huh.

[Hal kisses Liquid's neck, and can't help combing his hand through it, feeling the silky strands slide through his fingers.] You have...really nice hair.

I suppose so.

_{...mmn, Hal}--So you've said before. Quite a few times.

As long as who you are stays intact, that's what matters.

[a little shyly] Though, I have to admit, I do like your body. A lot.

[That little noise makes something in Hal's stomach shiver very pleasantly. He kisses a trail to under Liquid's ear.]

Yes, I think you're right.

Really now? [smirking] We'll just have to make as few changes as possible, then.

Y--_{mm, don't stop}--yes, you are. But go on, I do so love flattery.

A personality like yours can outlast anything.

[Hal runs his hand down Liquid's shoulder and traces his tattoo] Would you keep this, as a robot?

Hah. Of course it can.

Hm...if I could, then yes. I do rather like it. Not to mention I love when you do that.

[Silent, listening with a small smile--it's nice to hear Otacon talk about him that way.] You do of course realize there are several things about you I love just as much, don't you?

I do too. Does it mean something? Or just a design you liked? [He runs his fingers along the curve. The texture of the skin feels slightly different.]

Several things, I think--I was eighteen and drunk off my ass when I got it, so I was never quite sure. Were there a staff in place of the sword, it would be a Rod of Asclepius; a symbol of healing and medicine. There's something ironic there, I think. Although I still have no idea what 'temptation revelation' is supposed to mean.

[Smirks] Oh, where to begin...that charming little smile, perhaps? Or I could go on for days about how very beautiful I think your eyes are. Or...perhaps just the fact that you're foolish enough to love someone like me.

A sword fits you better. But you're fighting to fix my mistake and get rid of the Metal Gears in the world. That's a kind of healing, too.

[It's hard to stop touching Liquid's bicep once you get started.]

[Otacon's unparalleled powers of interpretation to the rescue!] It could have something to do with the snake in the garden of Eden. It tempted Adam and Eve, and they got exiled, but that ended up revealing a lot about the world and their humanity. If it weren't for that, people would just be hanging around in a garden not doing anything and not wearing clothes.

[Hal turns a little red and smiles.] [In the tone of voice that reveals how much he likes it.]

Hm...maybe you've got a point there.

[And Liquid sure as hell isn't going to stop him.]

That's...clever, Hal. [Sometimes, saying Otacon is wrong would be like kicking a particularly dimwitted puppy. Not even Liquid could be so cruel.]

Oh, I've not yet finished. There's that adorable laugh of yours, and how bloody brilliant you are...oh, and you're a damned fantastic kisser. [Smiiiiiirk.]

[teasing] You must be really prescient and good with symbolism when you're drunk.

[Hal can never get enough of touching him. His hands start exploring across his chest.]

[Hey, that was a totally valid interpretation! Hal is great at this stuff! Fortunately, he's distracted.]

[kinda really pink now]

[But that does give him a good idea. He leans in and gives Liquid a kiss.]

I'm a genius. Even when I'm drunk.

[Again, totally not complaining. In fact, he's quite enjoying this.]

[Totally valid. Sure.]

What? If you're going to flatter me, then I should be able t--_mmn...

[Congratulations, otacon, you shut Liquid up.]

Totally brilliant.

[Liquid has a certain shameless way of basking in attention. Hal loves it. No one else makes him feel so appreciated.]

[Hal takes his time kissing him, then lays his head on his shoulder.]

I want to have you around for a long time. We'll beat Metal Gear proliferation, then have a well-deserved retirement. We'll stop hiding, maybe see the world without having to blow anything up.

[It's funny how much hope can come from just having one option, to prove it isn't hopeless.]

[He kisses under Liquid's ear.]

[Now that felt nice. Then again, so did Otacon's head on his shoulder. Damn it, did he have to be so ridiculously adorable?]

I promised you once and I'll do it again; I won't go anywhere. Quite looking forward to that vacation, after all.

[He closed his eyes with a faint smile--if he were a cat, he'd be purring right about now.]

I am a pretty amazing anything, thank you very much.

[Hal'd spent a lot of his life avoiding people, and definitely not touching people. He makes up for it with Liquid.]

Yeah. We can have a peaceful life. We've earned it.

[Has Hal mentioned he looks really good like that?]

[And don't mind those arms around your waist, Otacon]

I should say we most certainly have.

[He always looks good.]

Hm...I doubt it. From what I hear, that'll be Raiden's specialty.

[As long as you don't mind that engineer sliding into your lap.]

From what I've heard, I guess we'll have a daughter by then, huh.

[You have a point there.]

[Hal laughs]
