[DATING SIM] A chance to destroy a nice, romantic atmosphere

[Look, a chance to see that rare creature--a somewhat content (Love Interest) Mantis! He's found himself a massive outdoor concert hall, an orchestra warming up on stage. Out on the lawn seats, with a blanket and a special someone and the stars twinkling in the sky, it could be really quite romantic.

Mantis is sitting in an uncomfortable plastic chair under the canopy, muttering about acoustics.

And the program starts. Go be romantic with someone who is not Mantis, for the love of Christ (obvious exception aside).]

That movie.

A mad machine. I can see why you wouldn't like it.

[He raises up on one elbow and looks at him.]

Is it worse than James Bond?

[identity profile] 3generations.livejournal.com 2008-09-06 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
[Nods]
Mhm.

[looks up and over at him]

I'd think so. At least people can understand James Bond.
Besides-[pushes up his glasses]
-unless your real name is Octapussy, I think you're in good shape.

[smiles, a little]

[identity profile] whyamisobritish.livejournal.com 2008-09-06 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
You're not supposed to understand Kubrick. Pretentious bastard.

[He falls back and laughs]

You make a good point.

[+10 for not making fun of his name.]

[identity profile] 3generations.livejournal.com 2008-09-06 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
[Shifts over enough to look at him properly, and starts laughing]

See? Things could be worse.

...

[Looks at him for a moment, silently]

[identity profile] whyamisobritish.livejournal.com 2008-09-06 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
[Liquid lets the music and cool evening waft over him.]

[For the moment, it's like they're not trapped in an interdimensional physically impossible building run by his lunatic bastard father at all.]

[Liquid is curious about being stared at, though he doesn't really mind.]

What?

[identity profile] 3generations.livejournal.com 2008-09-06 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
[It is a rather nice night.]

Wha-?

[Oh, boy. Was he staring? He was staring.]

Oh, uh. Nice night, huh?

[identity profile] whyamisobritish.livejournal.com 2008-09-06 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
[Liquid'll let it go for now.]

Yeah.

[He has an uncharacteristicly serene expression.]

Peaceful.

[identity profile] 3generations.livejournal.com 2008-09-06 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
[nods] There needs to be more nights like this, I think.

[Quickly turns his head to look back up at the sky, just letting the music play.]

[After a moment, he closes one eye, and raises a hand in the air- looks like he's tracing something]

I can never see it.

[identity profile] whyamisobritish.livejournal.com 2008-09-06 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
They're rare anywhere.

[watches his hand]

See what?

[identity profile] 3generations.livejournal.com 2008-09-06 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
Especially here, though.

[points to the stars]

The constellations. No matter how hard I look, I can never see the shapes they're supposed to be. I just see balls of gas.

[identity profile] whyamisobritish.livejournal.com 2008-09-06 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
You can't see that they're balls of gas from here, either. Only tiny dots of light. You're just used to thinking of them that way. It's the same idea.

They don't look anything like what they're named after. It's only something people project onto the top of the patterns. As if they aren't good enough of their own.

[He points]

That jagged line and the bright ones around it, that's Ursa Major. It's a sign to navigate by. Bears have nothing to do with it.

I suppose this sky has decided we're in the Northern Hemisphere.

[identity profile] 3generations.livejournal.com 2008-09-06 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
I.. suppose that's true.

[Scoots closer to him. Only to see where he's pointing at, of course.]

-Points to Polaris, right?

[looks over to him for confirmation- and didn't realize how close he was]

Ah-

[identity profile] whyamisobritish.livejournal.com 2008-09-06 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
-hm.

Right.

[Why does it suddenly feel warmer? And why does he think, '+2'?]

[He looks up again quickly.]

-and that leads to Arcturus.

[identity profile] 3generations.livejournal.com 2008-09-06 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
[He certainly feels warmer, despite the sudden breeze]

[Looks up] Arcturus..Hey.
That's the star created by Zeus, isn't it? To protect the other two stars from Hera's jealousy.

[moves his hand slightly over to point, but he's pointing to the wrong one]

That one, I think?

[identity profile] whyamisobritish.livejournal.com 2008-09-06 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
No, to the right.

[Takes his wrist and moves it over]

There.

[identity profile] 3generations.livejournal.com 2008-09-06 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
Hm?

[Lets Liquid moves his hand]

Oh! I see, now.

[Doesn't really make an effort to move]

[identity profile] whyamisobritish.livejournal.com 2008-09-06 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
...

[Lets go.]

Well. There you are, then.

[identity profile] 3generations.livejournal.com 2008-09-06 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, right.

[Swiftly drops his hand]

Thank you. You know quite a lot about all this-- survival training, or just an interest?

[identity profile] whyamisobritish.livejournal.com 2008-09-06 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
Navigation, and boredom. At night in the desert there isn't much else to look at.

[identity profile] 3generations.livejournal.com 2008-09-06 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd guess not.

[He continues to look up, listening to the music.]

...

[identity profile] whyamisobritish.livejournal.com 2008-09-06 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[looks amused]

You're pronouncing ellipsis. You've been around Snake too much.

[identity profile] 3generations.livejournal.com 2008-09-06 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
That's not true-!

...

[starts laughing]

Well, maybe a little true.

[identity profile] whyamisobritish.livejournal.com 2008-09-06 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what brother always does when he has something he wants to say, but wants you to ask first.

...So, what is it?

[identity profile] 3generations.livejournal.com 2008-09-06 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Well.

[clears his throat]

It's probably the atmosphere. But.

I wouldn't be adverse to, er.

-Well, never mind.
