Remember Remember the 5th of November
[Deep inside one of the various rooms of the Nexus is an Ocelot. This room might be somewhat familiar to certain members of the building, but to those without realization of the location would be greeted by a pleasant Eastern European environment. Beautiful cityscape, quaint stores and coffee shops, and a dark sky with a bright moon overhead. The night life of this particular city was indeed a breathtaking sight to witness. Lamps illuminated the scope of the location above as though softening the features of the luxirious surroundings. Usually, it was fairly quiet at this time, but there happened to be a lot of bustling of faceless bodies surrounding the streets and out by the water.]
[There was a chill in the air that night and the smell of gunpowder lingered in faint wisps. The aftermath of Halloween encouraged a more subtle evening ahead for the 5th of November celebrations. It wouldn't be long before the fireworks set off.]
[Ocelot was sat outside a café of a street corner. He leaned his arm on the small round table before him, a thick cigar held securely between gloved fingers. He could feel winter creeping up and decided to adorn his coat. The memories of this place, it was where he had been pulled from in his world. So much had happened by being in this world, this Nexus, it almost seemed an inevitability that he would never return home.]
[But no matter how many times he fought with that debate in his mind, he found himself not caring about the slim chances of returning to 2014. His life was perfect here. This was his home.]
[As that thought passed him, a bright pink flash of light sparked in the night sky. Ocelot smirked and raised his cup of hot chocolate to his lips, sipping the substance calmly.]
((ooc: Bonfire Night! Come and enjoy the sights, sounds and smells. There's plenty of stores open due to the event and open stalls with hot food ready to serve. You can go anywhere you like. Just don't fall in the water if you want to get a really good view of the fireworks.))

[He stares down the street and watches as speckles of rain begin to trickle down. He can feel a rumble of a purr beginning in his chest as he recalls the memory of his parents.]
She does live on in me, you know. They both do. I believe our connection was always fated with The Joy and The Sorrow as my bloodline.
[Adam's attention switches back to the younger female; There is a genuine look in his eyes, one that very few get to see. As he speaks, he almost sounds his age, like he really has embraced the idea of retirement and accepted the past for what it was.]
You are my only true friend, EVA. You know me better than anyone. Not even John is aware of what we have both been through.
[That smile becomes a playful one.] I relied on you as a youth. Despite our disagreements and dirty fights at times, I could not have progressed without you there by my side. I found it... difficult to admit back then, but I am not sure what I would have done without you in my life.
[He pinches the tip of his cigar to extinguish it.] I miss it.

[Now that Ocelot has opened up to her, EVA naturally feels as though she should return those heartfelt words. But as she opens her mouth to respond, the woman soon finds herself closing it again. Perhaps she can't quite open herself up and voice everything she feels for him just yet. She's just... not quite there. It's obvious from the look in his eyes that this Ocelot has reached a point in his life that EVA herself can only dream of right now. ...A time when he can be completely honest with both himself and others; accepting of his past, yet moving forward from it entirely.]
[It's almost enough to make her envious. But rather than feel jealousy, EVA finds herself feeling... genuinely happy for him.]
[Mama reaches up with a gloved hand and gently cups the side of Ocelot's face. She searches his eyes as she strokes his cheekbone with her thumb; pale blue eyes gazing deeply into his own.]
...You're completely free, aren't you? [As of right now, the only time EVA feels completely free is when she's on her bike. That's the only time that she feels comfortable enough to be her true self. Everyone's usual assumption, when they see this completely extroverted woman, is that she's already entirely uninhibited. ...But that isn't the whole truth.]
[A pause.] I wish that I... could be there with you.
[She smiles; though it is a sad smile] Perhaps I'll just have to wait a few more decades, hm?

[He had harbored a great deal of anguish at the thought of John choosing another over himself, but perhaps he had been foolish to allow the situation to dismantle so. Being the hot headed man he was, Adam had reacted before he truly had a chance to contemplate EVA's happiness. There was no question of a doubt how much he adored and loved John but he often questioned his option to be with him; was Adam a good enough choice? He knew better than to question John's motives by now and he knew the man was completely genuine, yet he still felt those pangs of doubt wash over him from time to time. He was well aware of the love that John felt for EVA and knew it was reciprocated.]
[Adam raises his own hand and places it over EVA's. He brushes his thumb along each slender digit; she deserved to be happy as well, but it was not easy for the predatory cat to simply let his partner go. It is clear by his expression he is contemplating a great deal. Usually he is able to mask his true motives and thoughts but if the spy should be able to read him like an open book this evening.]
No. Not completely free. Only in death will I be able to achieve that status. But I am as free as I can be while I am alive. I have my health and whatever is left of a family.

[EVA cants her head to the side and shrugs] Can't have it all, hm?
But- health and family... Not a bad alternative for old sinners like us. Have you truly retired from your life as a spy, though?
no subject
[Adam lowers their hands, but keeps his fingers wrapped around EVA's. He chuckles at the question.]
I've had to, for John's sake. I do miss that old life, there is no question of a doubt. But there is little left for me to do. I have achieved what I set out to complete.

[Her hands remain in Ocelot's, though she averts her gaze for a moment] I see.
You're the one that's actually with Jack, aren't you? The oldest one? "Pleasantly plump"?

[After giving a sad smile, she actually admits-] ...Wise choice.
[Instead of waiting for a reply, the woman turns to Ocelot and immediately changes the subject.]
So; where will you be taking me now, hm? I'm sure there are places far better than a street corner for us to chat in. Do you know this area well?
no subject
To start with, yes. But his interest waned and he built a courtship with the EVA of our world.
[Adam takes a relaxed stance.] He failed to mention that to me, of course. I would have taken it better had he simply spoken to me instead. That man is too damn quiet for his own good.
Truth be told, I don't think he understood why I was jealous.
[He shot the woman a sly grin.] But how could I not be? You were always the perfect partner choice for him. A beautiful, curvaceous, female blonde. A woman that committed her life to him, who had the ability to give him a family. Children. His sons.
Yes, I managed to secure his freedom, but at the cost of our lives, and the destruction of his family. What he sees in me, I will never understand.
[His eyes soften as he stares out to the water, watching as another firework explodes into the air.] Yet, no matter what has happened, what will happen, my heart is his to keep.
no subject
[She gives a sly smirk herself] 'You trying to make me feel better by putting yourself down?
[Suddenly, her playful grin fades and she allows herself to speak seriously.] ...I can't speak for Jack. But I know what I see in you. A strong force of will, a strong sense of loyalty for the man you love, your mother's charisma... You're a great man, Adam. Whether you're a "good person" or not, isn't for me to judge.
You're no saint. Neither am I. Neither is he. [EVA exhales slowly. She looks out at the display of fireworks as well.] ...We should stop worrying about whether we "deserve" what we've got or not, and just enjoy it while it lasts.
In the end... who knows- We may all be going to hell in the same handbasket. In the meantime, I plan on enjoying my life- and embracing the people around me. And I'm not giving up on myself. I choose to keep fighting for my own happiness.

[Adam watches EVA as she expresses her view on him. He had not been prepared for the compliments to be returned, and for that he was grateful. He exhaled a breath he hadn't realized he was holding as though the weight on his shoulders was beginning to lift.]
You are right, of course. I doubt any of us are truly innocent in our goals. We have all lived terrible lives filled with death and destruction, yet we were brought here for a reason. Dwelling on the past is no longer an option.
You're a strong woman, EVA. I only hope you do find your happiness soon enough. You deserve that much at least.
[A slight curl of his lips.] Now, let me buy you dinner.
no subject
[That's the closest she'll get to directly pouring her honest heart out to you as she'll get, Ocelot. At least for a while.]
[EVA smiles genuinely and loops her arm around his.] I thought you'd never ask~
