[DATING SIM] smile as bright as the stars
Love interest Otacon was in quite a cheerful mood, even by his usual standards of optimism and friendliness. After a rocky start, this nexus was starting to actually treat him pretty well.
Of course, things could change quite easily in a place like this.
Carrying his laptop and whistling a cheerful tune, he wandered through the halls of the building before finding his way to a room that looked remarkably like a sunlit park.
"...Well, this is different." he remarked, taking a seat on a bench and setting himself to work on his computer.

"Excuse me, is the meadow taken?"

If he had glanced up, he'd likely have had a heart attack. Hornets were not exactly on Otacon's list of things he wasn't afraid of--it was a short list, admittedly.

He sits down on the grass, hornet sitting around him in a circle. Opening the box, he pulled out an apple and tossed it in the air, thoughtful.
"Would you like a snack? I brought extra."

"U-uh..."
no subject
"I take it you're new?"

Pain leans forward slightly on his crossed legs, trying to be friendly.
"I'm Pain. It's nice to meet you again, Otacon."

It would be nice if he knew. Pain grins sheepishly; he knows it's not possible. The Cobras were erased from history like so much chalk on a blackboard after Snake Eater.
no subject
"I'm afraid not. Did you all have codenames like that?"
no subject
Shrug.
"We were active from second World War to just before Vietnam."
no subject
"I'm guessing the, uh...h-hornets...have something to do with how you fight?"
After a vampire and a woman that deflected bullets, that wouldn't be too shocking.

And sometimes they sting serial killers to death. Or Nazis. Angered hornets in a large open space were bad for everyone that wasn't Pain.
"I'm guessing you haven't seen the more eccentric members of the Nexus, no?"
no subject
He wasn't at all sarcastic, instead completely sincere and even curious.
no subject
He assumes this Otacons knows who (or would it be what?) REX is.
no subject
"...I didn't design it to talk." he replied in clear disbelief. "Roar, maybe, but...talk?!"
no subject
Grin. Otacons are fun to surprise.
no subject
"How did that happen? Was it something the nexus did?"
no subject
He shrugs. "All the robots are sentient here. Everyone gets a boost from the Nexus."

"Have you been in any rooms yet?"
no subject
"Do I...want to know what kind of things they can do?"
no subject
"Usually, anyway."
He nods.
"It's good to know what room you're going into in case it'll turn you into something you don't want or is deadly."

Beat.
"You know who's in here, right?"
no subject
...right?
"U-uh...no..." he admitted, clearly somewhat shaken.
no subject
IE insane.
"Most of the people here are perfectly safe. But there are still a few..."
Pain sighs, standing up slowly. "You mind if I sit with you? It'd probably be easier for you to get accurate descriptions down if I can see what you're typing."
