[The neck snapped easily beneath his fingers... almost too easily. With a sneer of disgust, Snake tossed the dead soldier's body aside as he continued on his way through the jungle. Where were the real challenges? At this rate, he'd be able to obtain Volgin's legacy in no time. He'd also like to take that pathetic scientist Sokolov along with him to help construct some weapons for him when the mission was over.

Boss had briefed him on the details of the legacy, and why they must have it to control the world. EVA was acting as a spy to help him, but... he was unsure of who to trust. For now, he'll maintain a healthy suspicion of his allies while destroying any enemies who dare cross his path. He had to be careful though lest his support team suspect his true motives.]

[Snake is so absorbed in his thoughts that it takes him a few seconds to realize that he's no longer in the jungle, but inside a strange building.]

[His teeth grind together; if this is a joke, it's not very funny.]

Where are we?

[He sighs. Looks like he'll have to give the explanation.]

This is the Nexus. It's this weird psychotic building that no one can leave. Don't go in any of the rooms here unless you have to, because they might do things to you that'll leave you traumatized for the rest of your life.

[He listens to the explanation with a bored look, not really believing a word of it. Or rather, not wanting to believe a word of it. He needed that legacy if he wanted to get anywhere with his ambitions.]

Do you have any way to back up these insane claims?

Sure I do. I'm here. You're here. And we're not killing each other. Or, if you want more proof, you can go into one of those rooms over there and see what happens.

[Actually, that last option would be quite amusing. Fury wouldn't mind getting to watch that.]

[Killing wasn't part of the plan, but he figures he means it sarcastically so doesn't say anything about that.]

Fine. [He walks over to a nearby door and turns the knob. What could be on the other side of that door that will prove this idiocy?]

[The inside of the room looks perfectly normal, disguising its true identity: a gender change room. Fury doesn't know this, obviously, but he still wants Snake to go inside.]

Go on.

[He pauses suddenly, turning to face Fury with a slight smirk.]

You know what? You go first.

What? No. What the hell would that even prove? Don't forget who you're talking to, here.

[That smirk is seriously irritating. Stop that.]

Well, there is a chance that what you're saying is true. In that case, I don't want to walk into a room and be traumatized for the rest of my life, do I?

[The smirk disappears, luckily for Fury.]

No, of course you don't. But neither do I. Either you decide to believe me now, or you don't. But if you don't, you'll regret it later.

[He doesn't even see why he's trying to convince this guy. It won't even benefit him in the end.]

[He steps away from the door; if Fury's reluctant to walk inside, it's probably true.]

Fine, I believe you. We better find Boss and the rest of the unit... I don't know what we're going to do without the legacy.

Right, you know what, that sounds fine and all, but I don't think that stuff matters here. I mean, there's copies of people running all over the place and I haven't heard a peep about the legacy the entire time I've been here. And you're the fourth Snake I've met.

[Now that he thinks about it, there seems to be little to no point to this place.]

Maybe I need to meet some of these impostors.

[And by meet, he means snap the necks of. Throat slitting is also acceptable.]

Not a word of it? What the hell are we supposed to do then?

I honestly don't think that they're impostors, but whatever. Do what you like.

[He shrugs.]

Not sure. I haven't been doing much myself. When things aren't hectic, this place is just boring.

Right. We'll see, I guess.

[Despite the brief description of the place, he still doesn't know enough to come up with any really good chaotic plans of destruction. But it can't hurt to think about them.]

I can do hectic.

Really? And here I'd pegged you as the type to enjoy peace more than chaos.

[With the way things are going now, Fury wouldn't be surprised if he learns something surprising everyday.]

I hope that's sarcasm.

[Peace... hah. Can't get more boring than that.]

What about you? Have you been stirring anything up?

... Just a few fights.

[All of this familiarity is strange. There's definitely something off about this Snake. Officially weirded out, he raises an eyebrow.]

Remind me again how we know each other?

Why, hit your head? But that shouldn't be a problem with your helmet...

[Unless this was an impostor Fury. He smirks again, with a bit more evil added in for good measure.]

Shut up. I just need a little reminding, that's all. This place has a nasty habit of messing with people's minds.

[This Snake is obviously not the Snake he knows. Though he actually likes this Snake better than the real one, he's still curious as to what reality he came from.]

[...He wouldn't tell him normally with that kind of obvious ignorance to their plan, but he'd already slipped up so there's little reason not to.]

I'm working together with your unit to steal Volgin's legacy. It's hard to forget something like that.

Wow. Yeah, I guess it would be.

[That's pretty messed up. But Fury actually sort of likes this Snake, so why tell him that they were actually enemies? That wouldn't be any fun.]

Anyway, I haven't met any Volgins here, either, so tough luck.

Great.

[He doesn't know Fury too well, but this behavior seems off anyway. But he seems to be going along with him, so he'll leave him alone for now.]

Guess I've got to find something else to do for now.

[He scoffs.]

Good luck with that. It's harder than it sounds, unless you can find someone interesting to pick on.

That shouldn't be a problem. How many people did you say were in this place?
