[Pain got a call from Viper fifty minutes ago telling him to show up for a fight or he'd kill Alek.]

[Forty minutes ago, Pain called his 'nephew' Ocelot for help and started a plan.]

[Twenty-five minutes ago, The Pain used Mantis to find the Sorrow and figured out the plan.]

[And now he's waiting for Sorrow to report back on the state of Viper's traps before he goes to confront him. He's going to rescue Alek, no matter what he has to do.]

[The Pain is here. The Pain is not happy.]

[The Pain is ready.]

[He shoots, but there is no effect. He holsters his gun and pulls out a knife, but only ends up getting his health bar drained injured. Eventually he works out that 'oh, hey, maybe the ghosts shouldn't be messed with' and tries to wade his way around them instead.]

[One ghost, ankles tangled in trip wires, stumbles disconcertingly close to Viper, muttering something that sounds a bit like "It's a trap!"]

[He backtracks hastily before continuing, eyes wide open. Did that ghost just say something about a tarp?]

[Your backtracking can't repel haunting of this magnitude! The dead draw closer, attempting a zombieish attempt at a pincer formation.]

[There's a surprise in every kill! He knows when he's outnumbered, so instead he readies himself before pressing forward through the line as quickly as he can. If he can't outfight them, he'll have to outrun them.]

The river picks up, something catches his leg and he falls, knocks his head on a rock. Something shifts in the water by his feet, like fine tendrils.]

[The menu screen pulls up and he selects the revival pill.]

[His eyes crack open, but he's lacking air. He shoots up, inhaling deeply, lying in the middle of the hall.]
