[The knock on the door of the one armed Liquid's house probably was unexpected.

That was alright. Liquid could wait. And when the door finally opened, there would be an interesting sight. A Liquid, no longer eyepatched, stood there before the door. His coat was fastened tightly up to his neck and there was an awkward expression on his face. Held gently in his hands, cradled against himself, was a pale gray kitten with big green eyes. It mewed impatiently squirming as if it sensed the awkwardness of the man holding it.]

[It was perhaps a good thing Mantis was out for the moment. Liquid had planned on reading in their room, with no comments about his need for eyewear.]

[At least he had, the thought running through his head as he opened the door, glasses still on his nose] Brother.

Brother. Can I come in?

[Liquid smiled awkwardly.]

We need to talk.

[Liquid slowly took off his glasses, looking at the kitten] I suppose- why do you have that?

[He held it out, clasped between both hands,]

It's for you. In apology for my behaviour, and because I know you crave affection.

And so you bring a... kitten.

[An adorable, big eyed, not grown into anything it has yet kitten]

...yes. Yes I do.

[The kitten wriggled in Liquid's hands, blinking up at the other Liquid with wide eyes. It mewed lightly.]

... Mantis doesn't like cats. [But he stepped back, letting his alternate in]

...then keep him in a different room. [He stepped inside thoughtlessly.]

Watch your step- it's a boy? [He took the kitten from his alternate, looking over it]

I know. I've been here before.

...I didn't think to check, actually.

If so, he'll need to be neutered. I don't wish to have him spraying every- why a kitten? [He asked as he pulled the kitten into a cuddle]

You need a little youth around here. [He teased lightly.] But kittens tend to be more affectionate and playful than older cats. They also learn as you teach them, rather than being set in their ways.

I... see.

[His fingers started scritching the kitten's chest] I... suppose I thank you.

[The kitten mewed contentedly and wriggled.]

There's no need for that. But you're welcome.

You said that you wished to talk to me. About what?

How are you holding up?

Well enough. Mantis is out, and I was only reading.

[Liquid draped himself over the couch without a thought.]

Come sit with me.

[And he brought the kitten with him, putting the furry blob on his lap to pet its ears] You're certainly comfortable.

Who, me or the cat? It seems at home with you.

[The kitten purred, curling up on his lap and playfully batting at his coat.]

[That pulled a brief laugh from him] I suppose the answer is both.

It's quite odd to see you with your coat buttoned completely up. You're usually far more comfortable with it open or off.

Shouldn't I be? I trust you, after all.

I don't particularly mind it either way. It's not good for fighting in, but sometimes I do wear it around.

Hm. Just a bit unexpected in my home.

It's merely strange to see. Though I do remember wearing it around quite a bit in Shadow Moses. Even then, the cold was far less likable than the heat we were used to.

You're welcome to come and lounge around in my home too, if you want.

I never noticed the cold, personally. It's why Ocelot said that, yesterday - that we don't get cold. He's never seen me react to it.

I had noticed, but it never... bothered me, I suppose is the right phrase. It's different now, of course.

I wouldn't worry about it, Brother. The cold only stimulates certain memories.
