A Joint Library/Jr. Mad Scientist's Workroom Post

On the 7th Floor of the Nexus, there is a rather large Library, and next to it, there are several workrooms...

The Workroom

[The young genius nerdling is in his element - building a house-robot from a robot kit.]

Hey, Mr Snake! Is this all right?

[In the Library section, James is watching TV while surfing what passes for the internet in the Nexus, and also reading a book on the side. Even he himself can't really figure out how he does all that at the same time.]

[And Julie is watching over his shoulder, fascinated.]

How can they cook so fast...

[Dimitri has taken one of his mini sewing projects with him today. He's sewing himself a pair of fingerless gloves out of a nice cotton-like material he found. You'll find him lounging on a chair in the library with the glove in one hand, a threaded needle in the other and his little sewing kit by his side.]

....Ohhh, you're talented!

[A middle-aged but still striking woman is looking at Dmitri~]

[He glanced up at the woman, took in her appearance for all of three seconds and determined there was a 65 to 85 percent chance they'd get along. Which is generous of him to think.]

I should hope so. I have to mend my own clothes. [Stitch, stitch, stitch and that seam was coming together smoothly.]

...Have you been doing this for a long time?

[She smiles at him.]

Hello, I'm Julie Danziger.

[If Dmitri looks into her mind, he might see something like her dead daughter in her casket, and then the same girl, alive again. Julie herself still hasn't processed all of this completely.]

[identity profile] neurotic-insect.livejournal.com 2011-04-25 09:10 am (UTC)(link)
Quite a bit, actually. I learned to sew when I was a child.

[Dazzling smile. He had to give her that. Not a lot of older women could pull off looking attractive.]

Dimitri Lebedov. [He caught vague hints of not-so-nice images floating around in the woman's head, but he thought it best to leave them be. She obviously had some troubles, and it wasn't his business to pry. So he turned the glove inside out very briefly to make sure it fit.]

...Oh. [She smiled a bit sadly.]

Have you been here long? ...This place is so strange...

[identity profile] neurotic-insect.livejournal.com 2011-04-25 09:19 am (UTC)(link)
Have I said something wrong? [He's feeling very polite today.]

About a month or two. It feels like I've been here for much longer since I have my own place.

No, not at all. [She smiles. How strange - the odd young man with the mask was so easy to talk to.]

Oh. I'm about the same, I think.

I'm living with my daughter now - Well, she's in the next room, and...This place isn't that bad, but I wish we could go home.

[Julie has not completely grasped that in her world, Emma was dead already.]

[identity profile] neurotic-insect.livejournal.com 2011-04-25 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Alright then. I'd dislike to seem rude.

[He shifted where he sat, sitting more upright. The glove was intide out again, and he tied off the stitching he had been working on. Only two more fingers to go!]

How fortunate. Living here must surely be more bearable with a familiar face around. [Reaching in to the sewing kit, he brought ought the next tube of fabric for the fingers and turned it rightways to expose the stitching.]

...Ohh, that's neat!

[James grins at the odd man in the mask, and looks up at him. Yes, James is in his early 20s but is probably shorter then Mantis.]

[His mind might feel a bit strange, with what feels like lots of subpersonas buzzing around in the background - Subpersonas are quite ordinary in and of themselves (I think) but they don't usually buzz around quite like that.]

[Ohh, masked person! Talk to, talk to!]

[identity profile] neurotic-insect.livejournal.com 2011-04-25 09:17 am (UTC)(link)
You think so? [He examined the new stitches closely. He didn't want to screw up and have to start all over again with these.] It's just a pair of gloves.

The real fun comes when you start making larger pieces of clothing, like shirts or shoes.
bb11: (Smiling)

[personal profile] bb11 2011-04-25 09:21 am (UTC)(link)
You make your own clothes?

[James looks admiringly at Dmitri. He can sew quite well, but making clothes from scratch is something he's never done.]

Oh. I'm James.

[Offers his hand.]

[identity profile] neurotic-insect.livejournal.com 2011-04-25 09:24 am (UTC)(link)
When I have to. Usually I just tailor clothes that I buy. Sometimes, though, it's just easier to re-construct the article of clothing.

[He set down his glove and needle, shaking James' hand.]

A pleasure. I'm Dimitri Lebedov.

[personal profile] bb11 2011-04-25 09:33 am (UTC)(link)
...Oh? You're not Mantis?

[He looks a bit younger, and is nowhere as paranoid looking, James feels.]

[identity profile] neurotic-insect.livejournal.com 2011-04-25 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
You're probably the fifth or sixth person who's asked me such a question. [A whimsical musing.] In other timelines, I become the one you know as Mantis, but as it stands, I'm still employed with the American FBI. Nexus has been kind enough to kidnap me before I go completely round the bend.

[Was that bitterness in his voice? Possibly.]
