//on the lonely rail
[Oh look, it's a not-so-often seen Otacon. And today, he's walking down a hall and back towards his room with a small cardboard box in his arms. In typical Otacon fashion, the box is absolutely full of spare parts, wires, and scrap metal. By all appearances he's back to his old tricks and obviously has something in mind to put those bits and pieces to use.
[It was a shame he couldn't have carried a larger box; there was only so much extra stuff he could fit into his labcoat pockets when he already carried a tranquilizer pistol. Oh, well. Hopefully he could find that room full of parts again if he needed anything else.]

[OHGODWHAT--oh, it's just Snake. Otacon was half expecting a lot worse than that]
S-sorry about that, Snake.
<3 i missed you okay
[The stuttering gives him pause because like, every other Otacon he meets here either thinks he's dead or crazy or something and he can't quite remember if he's met this particular one yet. He keeps one hand steady on Otacon's shoulder anyway as the man recovers his balance and eyes the box of junk.]
Busy?

...Nothing in particular.
[He just doesn't see you around all that often. At least, not nearly as much as he was used to back home. He tightens his grip and holds on another second longer before letting go and stepping back.]
What are you doing?

What are you up to now, Doctor?

[Beat.]
One that's a little more high-tech than 'Liquid with a shotgun'.
no subject
It's simple, but effective. You can't go wrong with the classics.
[Looking at the box of things in Otacon's hands. He can't imagine how what looks like a collection of junk could become a working system. His interest is piqued. You just know Liquid avidly reads Tom Clancy military tech-porn.]
What sort are you going to put together?

[A younger version of Hal waves at the older man.]
What are you doing? [He looks very interested in what Otacon is carrying around in the box.]

Looks like someone's gonna be busy.

I guess it'll be nice to have something to do for a change.

[He looks the box over.]
Hoping to make anything in particular?
no subject
Actually, I was thinking of making a security system for my room.

[He looks over the spare parts again; despite being a walking machine himself, he still didn't get how a box of scrap could turn into something like that. And yet, he knew Otacon could, and would, do it.]
It's amazing how you build those things from scratch, really. If I knew anything about mechanics I'd probably be better off myself...
