[Father's Day? Jack is oblivious. He's just wandering the hallways as usual, freshly drugged up on toluene and eyes open for any hostiles. Sure, this wasn't Liberia... he realized that much now. But Solidus never told him to stop patrolling. So there he is, a ten year old soldier with an AK in his grasp, ready to kill any hostiles he happens to come across. The Small Boy Unit band on his arm remained to serve as a reminder to Jack; he was the leader of the unit, even if it wasn't here yet. For now, he had to treat them all as MIA. He didn't miss them, but he was incapable of it. He was incapable of any real emotion like this.]

Or what? I'm not scared of you.

[He may be good, but he's still just a kid in a building full of super soldiers.]

[He wonders why no one's tried to give this Jack a chance at a normal childhood now that he isn't in Liberia. Vamp isn't exactly the one to know about regular childhoods, but it seems strange...]

[He frowns, folding his arms.]
Are you being taken care of?

[He finally sheathes his knife.]
Sir looks after me. He feeds me twice a day now, if I'm good.

This isn't war. Not here.
[He looks down at Jack sadly, his annoyance forgotten.]
You don't deserve this. I'll have a word with Solidus.

I do not deserve to be looked after?
[He frowns, clutching his AK.]
He took me in when my parents were killed, he is my family. He cares for me. He has faith in my abilities. He hasn't done anything wrong, but everyone treats him like a monster!
[Oh, if only he knew.]

[He isn't angry at Solidus... he knows his story. He's more angry at the situation right now.]
I know he isn't a monster... he used to be my boss. But I also know that this is unacceptable now that it can be stopped.
[Maybe he failed his Jack, but he can help this one...]

There's nothing for me or my unit outside of this. If we aren't going to fight, we may as well just ask Sir to slit our throats right here.

[He thinks about Jack's night terrors as he watches this boy... it would be too late for him to avoid that, but why should he continue?]
There is more to life than fight...ing.
[He pauses in the middle of his sentence, then trails off. How is he planning on helping him, exactly? Vamp himself doesn't know anything but fighting.]
...I'll speak with Solidus.
no subject
You don't understand. Sir told us it's either fight for him or die. There isn't time for other things. There's no point in other things.
[He tries to think about what kids his age were supposed to do, but he had no idea.]
...There's no point in anything but doing what I'm told. To serve in the Army of the Devil until I die, whether it's tomorrow or in a few years.

[Just another reason why trying to help this one would probably backfire. He can't even make a relatively stable adult happy.]
But I assure you, there is much more to your life than this.

[And it's obvious; the boy cares for nothing, really. His eyes are empty, devoid of any real emotion aside from the occasional flicker of annoyance.]
I don't care for happiness. I don't care for pain. I don't care for tears. All that matters is that I am a good Devil and kill who I am told to kill. Otherwise, I don't care.

[He suddenly very much wants to talk to his Jack.]
How would you like to be trained in advanced knife fighting, Jack?
[Maybe he can find a way to get the kid to trust him, and slowly help him from there.]

[He pulls out his blade again, staring at his reflection in the cold metal.]
...I got this on my tenth birthday. I felt for just the right spot, and I slit the throats of ten prisoners.
[And he hadn't felt a thing whilst doing it.]
They were my candles. Sir said if I didn't blow them all out I wouldn't get my wish... but I didn't care for the wish. My wishes never come true. I was only doing what I was told.
