//The day is breaking now, it's time to go away
[There is a laboratory on the fifth floor that is already back in use following the blackout. Otacon and Sunny had been hard at work to set this place up following their theft of half a computer lab and most of the technology on one particular floor. Now, this exceptionally secure facility - for the husband of a Liquid, paranoia was normal - was back in action already, though most of the security features needed to be reset. Finally, he could run those tests. For a while, all that could be heard from the room was strange noises, whirring, clicking, the whining of machinery.]
[Inside the room, the laboratory probably reminded one of that of a mad scientist. Several computers had been modified and linked together over one wall. One of them was lit up, displaying a video feed from the MK4 as it diligently returned to base for checking over before he could send it after Liquid again. Dismantled machinery and the odd strange contraption were scattered all over. There were notes and blueprints, the odd miniature robot (made out of careful boredom) and a few carefully made paper cranes. A bookshelf covered most of one wall, filled with various books stolen from the library and found lying around. Only one table was relatively clear - the one at which Otacon sat.]
[That table was almost entirely clear, save for a notepad, a few pens, one or two tools - and what appeared to be a mechanical hand. It had taken a lot of work, and he still was trying to find a better method of attachment, but it seemed to be working fine. He carefully set it back into the stand, watching as the fingers curled and twitched on command from the program he'd used to test them. The problem was that it needed testing from the man who would use it as well. He swung himself over to one of the computers, tapping in a command. It was easier to call the radio through the microphone there than to fuss around with the codec and hope it worked.]
(
volginswaifu will be getting a call, but Otacon's lab is currently open if anyone wants to bother, since Otacon hasn't gotten the systems back online for security yet. He's been a little distracted by robotics. )

Major Raikov speaking.

[Otacon sounded rather pleased with himself.]

I'll be there. [He ended the call, and headed to the lab.]
no subject
[He waited inside, running a few more tests and watching the fingers on the hand respond to the commands set. As the man entered, he looked up with a smile.]
Major, good to see you again. You look much better.
no subject
Emmerich! Yes...I feel a lot better. It seems wounds heal faster here.
[He eyed the hand on the desk with a smile.]
Is that it? [He leaned closer, mesmerized by the moving parts. It was even nicer than he'd imagined.]
no subject
[He hesitated, mild concern on his face.]
There's just one thing. I've been getting help to try to work on it, but the only way that seems to work is going to be a little painful to you. Probably worse at first - it'll get easier once you get used to it - but for you to use it without having to have your arm cut open is for t to attach externally - which means there has to be a way for it to connect to the nerves in your hand. That's why it'll be a little painful. I'm still trying to find another way, but... if you're willing to try it despite the pain, we can run with that, for now.
no subject
Sure, however it works is fine if it means I get to have a hand again...
[He worded himself gently.]
Trust me, nothing can compare to the pain that was having it...taken off.

Oh hey look a lil' sis.
I think we can get this one to work, with a few modifications.
Hi lil' sis!
[He shot her a smile, barely looking up as he took the piece. The equipment he needed for that was right nearby, so he carefully set to work on it.]
Hey, that program you wrote to test it with works great. Replicates the signals from the mind pretty well.
Hi big bro! <3
And thanks! I'm glad it's working out okay.
no subject
[He gave her a smile as he worked, disconnecting the hand and watching as the fingers curled in as the power supply was seveed.]
Oh, I'm going to need you to enter your data in the voice recognition system - the data got corrupted when the system went down.
no subject
Understandable. You want me to do it right now?
no subject
[He carefully brought up the program and tapped in a few commands before gesturing towards a nearby microphone.]
Just speak into that. Say anything you want.
Late reply is late, and fluffy Emma is fluffy.
Later reply is later and Emma is adorable

[Liquid walked up behind Otacon, leaning over and wrapping his arms around the engineer's shoulders.]
What's all this?
no subject
Just a favour I offered to do for someone. One of the cyborgs ripped their hand off, so...
[With a sweeping gesture, he indicated the mechanical hand.]
no subject
[He rested his head on top of Otacon's, smirking.]
no subject
I had to get a lot of help on it. The mechanics itself were easy, but connecting it to the arm was the difficult thing to work around.
[The words are idle and affectionate.]
I met your younger self. Younger than the other one.
no subject
...Younger? How young?
no subject
...Shadow Moses. From the looks of him, right after... after escaping.

[He'd only promised not to attack civilians, after all...]
Hey! You!
no subject
Hello! Can I help you?
no subject
I am looking for a boy. Arabic, seventeen, looks vaguely like myself.Probably looking terrified as well, considering he barely escaped being brutally murdered by a Liquid Snake...
[He doesn't approach, but his eyes wander curiously over the insides of the room.]
no subject
[He started, staring at the man.]
He hasn't been in here... but I can check the MK4's files, see if it picked him up. I know the security cameras didn't pick up anyone passing...
[With that said, he crossed over to the computer, tapping in a command. A separate video feed pops up, reversing through the video quickly.]
no subject
I would appreciate it. There are dangerous people out there and my son is not a soldier. I need to protect him...
[He's still a respectable distance from Otacon, but inside the room. He still has not bothered to treat his injuries.]
no subject
You're hurt. There's a first aid kit over there. If you sit down, I'll see to your wounds.
